Student Off-Campus & Premium Services Access Guide

This describes how students can access our premium content and services off-campus, including e-journal articles, ejournals, databases, eBooks, and our Camino self-service interlibrary borrowing system.

NOTE: You must have a valid HNU ID Card and you must activate your Holy Names University email account before you can log in to our electronic resources off-campus or use our other premium services. (See these activation Instructions for email, and see this page for the hours of the Student Resource Center, which provides HNU ID cards. If you lose your card, your login will still work.)

1. When you are prompted for access, enter your Off-Campus Access username and password:

Username = firstname_lastname (For example, brian_williams)

  • Do not include any spaces or special characters such as apostrophes or hyphens.
  • Usernames are only the first twenty characters of your firstname_lastname, including the underscore. For example, the username for Eugenia_SchneiderGreenlandRansom would be Eugenia_SchneiderGre

Password = your 7-digit student ID number (Ex: 1234567)

Note: For NEW students beginning Spring 2014, your password = your 7-digit student ID number followed by "HNU!" (Ex: 1234567HNU!) (Passwords are case sensitive.)

Your student ID is a 7-digit number that is also your Hawk's Edge Netclassroom password, as well as your initial campus email and Blackboard password.

Troubleshooting:

• Your browser must be setup to allow cookies. (In Internet Explorer, a medium security setting will allow access)

• If you are using security or firewall software such as Norton or MacAfee, you may have to turn it off in order to login successfully and access some of our resources.

• If you are trying to login from another place of work (i.e. hospitals, schools) their security or firewall setup may prevent you from logging in successfully.

• If you cannot login successfully after following these instructions, please contact the IT Helpdesk at 510-436-1611 or by e-mail at helpdesk@hnu.edu. If you require immediate off-campus access, please contact the Library at 510-436-1332 for a temporary username and password.
